The Electronic Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship has been designed to train and accredit those working with electronic components and products. It ensures that Apprentices develop the skills and knowledge they need to be competent in designing, manufacturing and testing electronic equipment and systems.
This programme includes a number of qualifications which Apprentices will work towards over a 3 year period. There is an initial block of Foundation Training, undertaken at our Centre in Aylesbury. This will give Apprentices the basic health & safety knowledge and hand skills needed to begin their work-based programme. Once in company, Apprentices will be visited regularly by their assessor to support their workplace progression and achievement of the Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma. Apprentices will also continue to attend ATG Training’s Centre, 1 day per week for up to 2 academic years, to work towards their BTEC National.
Engineering is an extremely specialised industry and therefore has numerous specialist Apprenticeship pathways available within it.
The Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma provides relevant, practical training for a range of Electronic Engineering job roles, including PLC Programmers, Electronic Designers and Aerospace Engineers. Apprentices will learn all the necessary skills required to create, test and fault-find on circuit boards safely, and develop basic design skills using CAD software.
The BTEC National enables Apprentices to learn about the principles of Engineering, Health & Safety, develop core Maths skills and gain an understanding of the properties of different Engineering materials, as well as knowledge specifically related to Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic Engineering. In year 2, Apprentices will combine their knowledge and skills to produce an Engineering Project, based on a real service or product supplied by their employer, suggesting how it could be more cost/time effective. This application of the Apprentice’s learning in their real working environment very effectively demonstrates the progress that they have made.
Apprentices need to demonstrate that they can follow instructions (written and verbal), work as part of team, use their initiative (where appropriate) to solve problems and take responsibility for their own work, learning and development.
Functional Skills training is a fundamental part of the Apprenticeship and provides further development in everyday work related skills. Advanced Apprentices are required to complete the following:
Units to be completed with the Level 3 NVQ in Machining will be agreed on completion of the Foundation Training. As the NVQ comprises mandatory and optional units, the employer and the Apprentice can tailor the NVQ to the needs of the business and the aspirations of the Apprentice.
Technical Certificates for Advanced Apprentices are undertaken over two years on a day release basis at ATG Training – Future Centre. A selection of courses are available, the employer can further tailor the Apprenticeship to meet the skill need of their business.
The BTEC National Certificate in Engineering and Electronics applies to this Advanced Apprenticeship. Further BTEC details are available on request.
